Grade 8; #4 Explain and use the inverse and identity properties and use inverse relationships

  1. Warmup: 4 Steps to Problem Solving
  2. Review Friday HW (Smile, Straight, Frown)
  3. If the signs are different, the sign of the answer is negative
    • 5(-8) = -40
  4. If the signs are the same, the sign of the answer is positive
    • -12(-3) = 26
  5. Using Order of Operations
    • -3(2-8) = -3(-6) = 18
    • 4(-7-2) = 4(-9) = -36
    • -2(14-6) = -2(8) = -16

Grade 8; #4 Explain and use the inverse and identity properties and use inverse relationships

  1. Review 9-27 4 Steps Problem
  2. 4 Steps to Problem Solving
  3. 6 + t = 28 / t = 28 - 6 / t = 22
  4. m - 8 = -14 / m = -14 + 8 / m = -6
  5. 15 = w + (-14) / w = 15 - (-14) / w = 29
  6. 8x = 32 / x = 32/8 / x = 4
  7. -7y = -91 / y = -91/-7 / y = 13
